Bengaluru, Oct 17 – Karnataka’s opposition leader, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, fired a warning after the state government pulled his security guard team. He said if anything bad happens to him, the Kharge family must answer for it.
Narayanaswamy said the move came because he “raised his voice against the state government.” He claimed the government suspects he is a threat to them and is trying to silence him. The security handover happened shortly after the government denied him three police officers, who had previously been assigned to keep him safe.
The opposition leader called on Karnataka’s Chief Minister and Home Minister to explain why his security was withdrawn. “If I don’t get an answer, I will return all the facilities that the government gives me,” he said. He added that the state has intensified law‑enforcement presence around his house even as he showed on social media how he was threatened and told he would be “burnt alive.”
Narayanaswamy singled out Minister Priyank Kharge, who heads the department for Rural Development, Panchayats, IT and BT. He accused Kharge of posting a threatening video and of tightening security around the minister’s house without asking for complaints from opponents. “The government wants to finish us off,” Narayanaswamy said, and urged that the Kharge family and the government be held responsible if something happens to him.
When asked about the minister, Narayanaswamy questioned the number of Kharge family members involved in the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS), a group that fights for Dalit rights. He also dismissed rumours that the government was attacking the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), saying the party’s name was never even mentioned in cabinet talks.
The story comes amid growing tensions in Karnataka’s political circles, with opposition members demanding better protection and transparency from the ruling coalition. The matter is still developing as Narayanaswamy prepares to withhold all state‑supplied services unless the Chief Minister and Home Minister clarify their reasons.
