Shocking Drug Bust: Private School in Hyderabad Turns Out to Be Alprazolam Factory
In a stunning revelation, Telangana’s Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) is digging deeper into how a private school in Secunderabad became a secret hub for making the dangerous drug Alprazolam. The raid happened in Hyderabad’s Bowenpally area at Medha High School, where officials uncovered a hidden narcotics manufacturing unit.
EAGLE teams swooped in on Saturday and grabbed 3.5 kg of finished Alprazolam, 4.3 kg of semi-processed drug, Rs 21 lakh in cash, heaps of raw materials, and all the equipment needed to produce it. That cash? It came from just two days of selling the illegal stuff, investigators say.
They arrested three key players, including the main culprit, Malela Jaya Prakash Goud, a 39-year-old from Mahabubnagar who’s also the director of this very school. Goud ran Medha High School for kids up to Class 7, with around 130 students enrolled. But get this—the school was just a front to dodge suspicion. While classrooms sat in the cellar and part of the first floor, plus a bank on the ground level, the real action happened in a hidden back section of the building.
Turns out, Goud used to run a toddy shop in Mahabubnagar before getting hooked into this dark world. A guy named Guruva Reddy showed him the ropes of Alprazolam production, and Goud even shelled out Rs 2 lakh for the secret formula. He started cranking out the drug and supplying it to toddy depots in Boothpur and nearby spots in Mahabubnagar. There, they mixed it with toddy to amp up the "kick" for customers. His own staff helped run the operation, including P. Uday Sai, 23, the driver, and G. Murali Sai, the transporter—both now in custody.
This shady setup had been going on for about a year, according to police. EAGLE acted on solid tips and raided the place, nabbing the trio and seizing everything. Now, they’re grilling the suspects to track down the rest of the network, including suppliers of the chemicals Goud used.
Why does this matter? Alprazolam, a powerful sedative, gets mixed into toddy to make it extra potent—and deadly. Remember the tragedy in July? Nine people died and 50 fell sick in Hyderabad’s Kukatpally after drinking adulterated toddy laced with Alprazolam. This bust could help crack down on such dangerous practices across Telangana.
EAGLE officials promise more arrests as the probe heats up. Stay tuned for updates on this Hyderabad drug raid and the fight against narcotics in schools-turned-factories.
