In a recent interview with the Indian Associated Press () in New Delhi, Tej Pratap Yadav, the national president of the Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD), talked about why he says people matter more than titles and how he plans to bring jobs and development to his home district of Mahua in Bihar.
“We need real work for people,” Yadav told . “The people of Mahua are worried because they can’t find jobs. Who becomes chief minister depends on them. If we win, our party will work hard to give them jobs and better services.” He added that he has seen the change in Mahua, where residents no longer need to travel to Patna for medical treatment. “Now we have a medical college, better roads, and the work is underway to provide more facilities,” he said.
Yadav, a third‑generation political figure—his father Lalu Yadav and mother Rabri Devi are well‑known names in Bihar—stated that his family’s blessings are simply a support, not a crutch. “I have the blessings of my parents, but I need the blessings of the people of Mahua even more,” he said. “No other support matters if the people don’t trust me.”
In response to rival RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s recent development promises, Yadav said that promises alone are not enough. “All leaders talk about change, but only I can deliver,” he told , pointing to the medical college as proof. “Their words don’t mean anything until people see the results.”
He also addressed the criticism that some politicians stay in air‑conditioned offices and stay away from the ground. “Leaders who stay in rooms with air‑conditioning are not connected to the land,” Yadav said. “I travel on a bike to meet my voters. That keeps me grounded and lets me hear their problems directly.”
The interview highlighted Yadav’s focus on grassroots development, his belief that job creation and infrastructure are the paths to progress, and his confidence that supporters will choose him if they see tangible results in Mahua and beyond.
