Kolkata, Oct 23 – IIM Calcutta announced it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI) to create a new partnership between one of India’s top business schools and a leading media arts institution.
The deal, the first of its kind in India, aims to blend management training with film and media expertise. IIM Calcutta’s director, Alok Kumar Rai, and SRFTI vice‑chancellor Samiran Datta signed the MoU in a ceremony held in front of both campuses.
“We want to mix proven business principles with creative storytelling so students and professionals can learn how strategy meets art,” Rai said. The new collaboration will provide joint research projects, teaching programmes, consulting work and specialised training that bridges business strategy and media practice.
Both schools will also launch exchanges and cross‑disciplinary projects, combining analytical rigor with artistic expression. The partnership is expected to fuel India’s creative economy by opening fresh learning and career pathways for students, researchers and industry professionals.
“By working together, we’ll expand training opportunities that are relevant to today’s film, media and business worlds,” Rai added. The MoU promises a unique academic ecosystem that fuses creativity with management insights, benefiting the growing sectors of media and business education in India.
