India has stepped up its help for Afghanistan after the recent earthquake, sending more food supplies to those affected. The news came from Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, who posted the update on X on Friday. Jaiswal said the shipment is part of India’s ongoing humanitarian aid to the country.
Earlier that day, Foreign Minister Pushkar Jaishankar met Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi in New Delhi. The two leaders discussed ways India can support Afghanistan’s development, trade, and people‑to‑people ties. Jaishankar highlighted that the Afghan visit was a “key step” in strengthening ties and revealed that India would hand over five ambulances to Afghanistan during the meeting.
During the same talks, Jaishankar announced several new projects that will provide medical equipment—MRI and CT scan machines—to Afghan hospitals, along with vaccines for immunisation and cancer treatments. He also mentioned ongoing drug rehabilitation supplies to Afghanistan through the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.
India has been a rapid responder in past crises, delivering relief supplies within hours of the earthquake. The ministry confirmed that another consignment of food aid will arrive in Kabul today. Afghanistan’s foreign minister welcomed India as a close friend and pledged that Afghan territory would not be used against any other nation.
India’s consistent aid—from health support during the Covid pandemic to infrastructure rebuilding—continues to strengthen its bond with Afghanistan.
