Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Indians to embrace self-reliance, or Atmanirbhar, by focusing on Swadeshi products during his latest Mann Ki Baat radio address. In the 126th episode aired on Sunday, he encouraged everyone to turn “Vocal for Local” into a daily shopping mantra, especially with festivals like Diwali approaching.
Modi highlighted how upcoming celebrations bring excitement and lots of shopping. “Festivals and joys are coming one after another,” he said. “We shop a ton for every occasion, and right now, the GST Bachat Utsav is on too. Make your festivities even more special by resolving to go all-Swadeshi. You’ll see the joy multiply many times over.”
He painted a vivid picture of what buying local really means. Resolve to pick only Indian-made goods, he advised—items crafted by your fellow citizens. “When we do this, we’re not just grabbing products,” Modi explained. “We’re bringing hope to families, honoring artisans’ hard work, and fueling young entrepreneurs’ dreams.”
Modi also called for keeping cleanliness in mind amid the festive buzz. While we all spruce up our homes, he said it shouldn’t stop there. “Cleanliness is our shared duty—in streets, neighborhoods, markets, and villages,” he added. With Diwali set to light up the nation in a grand way, Modi extended warm wishes but doubled down on his message: India must become Atmanirbhar, and Swadeshi is the key path forward.
