India’s Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met with Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev in New Delhi on Friday, September 26. The two leaders had productive talks on boosting bilateral trade and cooperation, especially in the agriculture sector.
They focused on growing agricultural trade between India and Russia, with a big push to increase India’s exports of farm products. Chouhan highlighted the strong trust and partnership that has defined India-Russia relations for years. He outlined India’s main goals in agriculture, like securing food for everyone, raising farmer incomes, and ensuring access to safe, nutritious food.
Drawing on the ancient Indian idea of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”—the world as one family—Chouhan stressed how global teamwork can support farmers’ well-being and national food security.
Patrushev praised the deep ties between the two countries across various fields, including agriculture. He expressed Russia’s strong desire to expand agricultural trade and suggested signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to make it official.
The conversation zeroed in on balancing trade flows and building technical partnerships. Indian officials pushed for better market access in Russia for key agricultural products and hoped to resolve any pending issues quickly.
Both sides agreed to ramp up academic exchanges and scholarships for students. They also explored joint projects on seed traceability systems to drive innovation and tech solutions in farming.
Overall, India and Russia recommitted to closer collaboration in agricultural trade, education, research, and development. Their goal? Sustainable growth that benefits everyone in the sector.
