Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urged Indians to unite for the country’s growth during a speech in Lucknow on Monday. He highlighted how every citizen’s inner drive for progress can propel India forward.
“India will develop only when every Indian carries that resolve in their heart,” Yogi said. He added that people should honor India’s great leaders, gods, goddesses, and freedom fighters. Echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he called for ditching the old “slavery mentality” and fostering true national unity in everyone’s heart.
Yogi shared these thoughts while interacting with young participants from Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha at the 17th Tribal Youth Exchange Programme. This week-long event, running from September 25 to October 1, gathers tribal youth from across India to build connections and skills.
Earlier that day, Yogi joined a virtual meeting with mayors to discuss “Developed UP-2047,” a vision for Uttar Pradesh’s future. He proudly noted that UP has transformed into one of India’s key growth engines. No longer does anyone call it a “BIMARU” state—an old term for economically lagging regions like Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
Before 2017, investors steered clear of UP due to bad roads and security issues, Yogi explained. But today, the state features a strong network of highways and solid links to neighboring areas. Every district headquarters now connects via two- or four-lane roads, drawing in big investments.
Yogi pointed to the progress: Eight years ago, UP’s GDP stood at Rs 12.75 lakh crore. The state aims to hit Rs 36 lakh crore by the end of this financial year. Mayors shared stories of boosting their municipal corporations’ earnings, and Yogi encouraged them to aim even higher.
On jobs, he celebrated creating over 2 crore opportunities through the One District One Product scheme. Plus, the government has filled 8.5 lakh positions so far, fueling Uttar Pradesh’s rise as an economic powerhouse.
