Indian Army Builds 150-Foot Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir After Heavy Rains
Heavy rains recently wreaked havoc in Jammu and Kashmir’s Jammu region, washing away key roads and leaving locals stranded. But the Indian Army stepped in quickly to restore vital connectivity, launching a sturdy 150-foot reinforced Maitra Bridge in Ramban district.
The Karol–Maitra Road, a crucial link between Ramban and other parts of the Union Territory, got badly damaged by nonstop downpours. The washed-out section sat about 20 meters above the Chenab River, right under shaky cliffs. This road connects government offices, villages, and daily commuters, so its collapse disrupted lives, stranding people and vehicles for days.
Ramban’s district administration urgently called on the army for help. In response, the Indian Army’s White Knight Engineers team got to work right away. They built and launched a 150-foot triple-panel, double-storey, extra-wide reinforced Bailey bridge. This design handles heavy traffic easily, ensuring safe passage for everyone.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Jammu and Kashmir Police, and local agencies all pitched in to speed up the project. Thanks to their teamwork, the bridge now stands strong, reconnecting the area.
But the army’s efforts didn’t stop there. Under the #HumAapkeSaathHain Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief project, they extended support across districts like Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Udhampur, Reasi, Akhnoor, Rajouri, and Poonch. These areas faced landslides, flash floods, and torrential rains.
Defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal shared that the team helped over 5,000 people with timely relief. They also set up medical camps in remote villages, offering essential healthcare. Veterinary aid and food supplies reached far-off spots too, keeping communities going during the crisis.
Lt Col Bartwal highlighted how these actions show the Indian Army standing side by side with the people it protects. "Every bridge we rebuild, every camp we run, and every family we assist builds stronger trust between our forces and local communities," he said.
This quick response in Jammu and Kashmir after heavy rainfall not only fixes roads but also brings hope to rain-hit areas, proving the army’s commitment to disaster relief and community support.
