Indian Navy’s training squadron gets ceremonial welcome in Seychelles

Indian Navy Ships Foster Strong Ties with Seychelles and Saudi Arabia

In a move that boosts maritime friendship, India’s First Training Squadron (1TS) of the Indian Navy recently arrived at Port Victoria in Seychelles. The ships — INS Tir, INS Shardul, and CGS Sarathi — received a grand and colorful welcome from local officials and the Seychelles Defence Force, highlighting India’s growing naval partnership in the Indian Ocean region.

The 1TS is on an important long-range training voyage across the South West Indian Ocean. Their visit to Seychelles on Monday was marked by ceremonies that showcased the strong bond between India and Seychelles. The Indian Navy’s ceremonial guard and band participated in the celebrations, symbolizing friendship and cooperation.

During their stay, Captain Tijo K Joseph, the senior officer of the training squadron, will meet with key officials from Seychelles’ Ministry of Defence, the Seychelles Defence Force, and the Indian High Commission. This visit includes cultural exchanges like yoga sessions, performances by the Naval Band, sports activities, and community outreach programs—building bridges of friendship between the two nations.

The Indian Navy’s port call in Seychelles marks the third visit in 2025, underlining India’s active maritime efforts in the region. These visits are part of India’s broader vision called MAHASAGAR, aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and maritime security in the Indian Ocean.

In addition to Seychelles, Indian naval ships are also making waves in Saudi Arabia. Recently, the ships INS Tamal and INS Surat completed their port visit in Jeddah on August 30. During their stay, they participated in a Passage Exercise with the Royal Saudi Navy’s Corvette HMS Jazan, further deepening military ties.

The ships also engaged with Saudi naval personnel through sports matches, social events, and interaction sessions. Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, also visited the ships on August 28, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic and military cooperation between the two countries.

These visits highlight India’s focus on strengthening maritime partnerships across the Indian Ocean region, fostering peace, friendship, and security among nations.
