Owaisi Slams BJP Over India-Pakistan Asia Cup Match After Pahalgam Terror Attack

In a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has raised tough questions about India’s decision to play the upcoming cricket match against Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup. Speaking to the media in Hyderabad on September 14, Owaisi highlighted the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 innocent tourists lost their lives on April 22 to Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. He demanded to know if the money from the match is worth more than those precious human lives.

Owaisi directly challenged the BJP leaders, including the Chief Ministers of Assam and Uttar Pradesh. "You don’t have the power to refuse a cricket match against Pakistan, even after they asked for the religion of our 26 citizens in Pahalgam and shot them dead," he said, his voice filled with anger. He urged the government to explain the financial gains from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) versus the tragedy of losing 26 lives.

Turning to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Owaisi recalled the PM’s strong words: "Blood and water cannot flow together, and dialogue with terrorism is impossible." So, he asked, "How much will BCCI earn from this one India-Pakistan match—Rs 2,000 crore or Rs 3,000 crore? Is that money more valuable than the lives of our 26 citizens?" Owaisi made it clear that AIMIM stands firmly with the victims’ families—yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

The controversy has heated up emotions across India, especially after the brutal Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 tourists. Many voices are calling for a boycott of the India vs Pakistan fixture in the Asia Cup to protest against Pakistan’s role in terrorism. This isn’t the first time cricket diplomacy has sparked debate amid cross-border tensions.

Echoing similar sentiments, Congress leader Abhishek Dutt also criticized the government’s move. Talking to , he pointed out the contradiction: "On one hand, you boast about Operation Sindoor and say no talks with terror, no trade with terror. Your delegations visit foreign countries to push this message. So, what signal are you sending by playing a match with Pakistan now?" Dutt even demanded the cancellation of the game to stay true to India’s anti-terror stance.

As the Asia Cup continues, this India-Pakistan cricket clash has become more than just a game—it’s a flashpoint for national grief and political debate over terrorism, BCCI earnings, and India-Pakistan relations.
