Visakhapatnam’s Yarada Beach rattled people this Sunday when two Italians dove into the deep waters and struggled to stay afloat. The Port Marine Police and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation lifeguards rushed them to shore. One tourist, badly injured, was already in critical condition. The rescue crew performed CPR, but the man could not be revived and was flown to King George Hospital (KGH) where doctors confirmed he had died.
Police filed a case and started an investigation. Officials say the tourists ignored repeated warnings that the current is too strong and the water too deep for safe swimming. This incident highlights why Visakhapatnam’s beaches, crowded on weekends, have seen a surge in safety patrols. The marine police and city authorities now keep extra staff on the shoreline to shout out danger zones and respond quickly if someone goes down.
In other news, Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Women, Child Development and Tribal Welfare, G. Sandhya Rani, visited KGH on Sunday. She met with doctors to check on a group of 85 girl students from a tribal residential school in Kurupam, Parvathipuram Manyam district, who fell ill on Saturday. The school’s students were experiencing fever, jaundice, and a few were diagnosed with Hepatitis A. Among the 129 students affected, 37 were taken to KGH, while the rest were treated in Parvathipuram. The minister confirmed that none of the girls were in critical condition and urged hospital staff to ensure the best care.
The incident at Yarada Beach underlines the importance of respecting beach warnings, especially as Visakhapatnam continues to attract tourists and locals alike every weekend. Meanwhile, the health check‑up of the tribal girls shows how quickly illness can spread in crowded school settings—reminding authorities to stay vigilant and respond fast when a health problem emerges.
