In Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah kicked off several key developmental projects on Monday, worth a total of Rs 36.50 crore. He inaugurated some and laid foundation stones for others, all aimed at boosting local infrastructure in the Ganderbal assembly constituency.

Joining him were Minister Satish Sharma, Advisor Nasir Sogami, and district officials. The lineup featured upgrades to Beehama Stadium and Madr-e-Meherban Stadium, plus fresh playfields in spots like Gund Rehman, Manigam, Wakura, and Batwina. These moves target nurturing young sports talent right in the community.

Abdullah also unveiled new sports gear for the youth, sparking lively demos from Judo, Thang-Ta, and Yoga athletes. It highlighted Ganderbal’s buzzing sports scene, as shared by the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s Office on X.

One standout project: a new 1×6.3 MVA 33/11 KV Receiving Station in Ganderbal Saloora, built for Rs 2.5 crore. This upgrade promises reliable electricity to thousands of homes, shoring up the area’s power grid.

Under the Youth Services and Sports Department, Abdullah launched three big wins at the Government College of Physical Education in Ganderbal: a prefabricated indoor badminton hall, a synthetic athletic track, and a synthetic football turf. Costing more than Rs 12 crore, these modern spots will supercharge sports training and help aspiring athletes shine.

Turning to current tensions, Abdullah addressed the unrest in Leh while speaking to reporters. He stressed that no innocent blood should spill in the Union Territory and hoped a similar crisis wouldn’t hit Jammu and Kashmir. “A situation like Leh shouldn’t take root here—it can escalate fast,” he said. “We’ll keep pushing our case.”

On statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah made it clear it’s no handout but a firm promise from the central government—not just to locals, but to all of India and even the Supreme Court. With the three-step roadmap of delimitation, elections, and statehood underway, he urged the center to deliver without exploiting the calm in the region.
