In Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, RSS workers celebrated Vijayadashami with a special Shastra Pujan ritual on Thursday. The event marked 100 years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and took place at the Senior Citizen Club in Shiv Nagar. Families joined in, wearing traditional Sangh uniforms, as part of Dussehra festivities symbolizing good triumphing over evil.
Shastra Pujan honors weapons in Hindu tradition, reflecting how gods and goddesses often wield them. Nagar Sangh Chalak Udhampur, Shri Krishan Nagar, shared that similar programs happened at 13 spots across the city. “Most of our deities carry weapons, so we perform this puja on Vijayadashami to keep the tradition alive,” he said. Workers attended with their loved ones, strengthening community bonds during the Hindu festival.
On the same day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh led a Shastra Pooja at the Bhuj Military Base. Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi and Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, head of the Southern Army, joined the ceremony. A highlight was the presentation of the L-70 Air Defence Gun, which played a key role in Operation Sindoor.
This gun proved its worth by firing 300 rounds per minute and targeting threats up to 3,500 meters away. It helped Indian forces shoot down Pakistani drones during the operation, showcasing the strength of India’s air defense system.
Rajnath Singh highlighted India’s readiness against threats like terrorism. He noted how Operation Sindoor thwarted Pakistan’s attempts to breach defenses from Leh to Sir Creek. “Our armed forces exposed their weaknesses and showed the world that we can strike back hard, anytime and anywhere,” the minister said. The event underscored India’s military prowess on this significant Dussehra occasion.
