In Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, police just pulled off a big bust against bovine smuggling. On Tuesday, officers stopped a modified oil tanker and rescued more than 20 crammed-up animals inside it. Deputy Superintendent of Police Prehlad Sharma shared the details with , saying his team is cracking down hard on drug peddlers and cattle smugglers in the area.

Sharma explained that Udhampur Police are fighting back strong against this illegal trade. They got a tip about the smuggling and signaled the tanker to stop at the Tikri checkpost. But the driver sped off, ignoring a second checkpoint too. Officers chased the vehicle down until it finally halted. The driver bolted from the scene, leaving the tanker behind.

When police searched the tanker, they found a hidden compartment packed with 20 to 25 bovines. The animals looked stressed from the tight squeeze, but the team quickly freed them. Now, a hunt is on for the fleeing driver, and cops have filed a case with an investigation underway.

This isn’t the first time Udhampur Police have hit smugglers where it hurts. Back in March, they seized a load carrier worth 10 lakh rupees from a known bovine smuggler named Arshad Khan in Rathian village. It was a groundbreaking move—the first vehicle attachment of its kind in Jammu and Kashmir.

Senior Superintendent of Police Amod Ashok Nagpure gave the scoop on that case, tied to FIR No. 22/2025 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Their probe showed the vehicle came straight from smuggling profits, making it part of the crime itself under Section 107.

These actions show Udhampur Police mean business in stopping bovine smuggling and protecting animals in Jammu and Kashmir. Stay tuned for updates on the ongoing probe.
