In Jaipur, a devastating fire broke out at the Trauma Centre of Sawai Man Singh Hospital on Sunday night, killing more than six people and leaving several others injured. The blaze, believed to have started from an electrical short, has sparked urgent calls for stricter fire‑safety rules in Indian hospitals.
BJP’s national chief, J.P. Nadda—who also serves as Union Health Minister—shared his sorrow on social media. “The news of patients being killed in the trauma centre fire is extremely heartbreaking,” he wrote. “I spoke with Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to check how the state is handling the situation and to ease the families’ pain.” Nadda added his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a quick recovery for the injured.
The incident also drew a strong response from Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, who said the tragedy was “heart‑wrenching.” In a message on X, she offered prayers for the deceased, urged the Rajasthan government to compensate affected families, and called for a swift, transparent investigation to prevent a repeat of such a disaster.
To probe what happened, Rajasthan officials have set up a six‑member panel headed by Iqbal Khan, the Medical Education Department commissioner. The committee will examine the fire’s cause, review the hospital’s safety protocols, and recommend improvements. The findings are expected soon, with a report to be submitted at the earliest.
Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma also voiced deep condolences over the loss of life and injuries caused by the electrical fault. The state’s emergency services rushed the patients to other facilities, but the incident exposed serious gaps in fire safety for medical institutions.
The Jaipur hospital fire has brought national attention to the need for better fire‑safety standards across public hospitals. Authorities are now racing to investigate, compensate, and overhaul safety measures to keep patients and staff safe in the future.
