Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has approved generous financial aid for the families of those hit by the Jodhpur‑Jaisalmer Highway bus disaster. Each family of a deceased passenger will receive ₹10 lakh, while those who lost three or more members get ₹25 lakh. Seriously injured victims will get ₹2 lakh, and other wounded passengers will receive ₹1 lakh.
The tragedy unfolded near Thaiyat village in Jodhpur district on Tuesday. A bus carrying about 57 passengers caught fire after an engine malfunction sparked a blaze in its rear. The flames spread quickly, panicking passengers and forcing locals, police and fire crews onto the scene. Despite swift rescue efforts, 21 passengers lost their lives and many others were injured.
“I feel deep grief for the families who have lost their loved ones,” CM Sharma said. “We stand firmly with them in this difficult time and will ensure full government support for the injured.” He also relaxed the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund rules to speed the delivery of assistance, letting payments reach families without delay.
Sharma directed district authorities to provide the best possible medical care for the injured and to extend ongoing support to bereaved families. The state government reiterated its commitment to help citizens in every crisis.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund had already approved a Rs 2 lakh compensation for families of the deceased and ₹50 000 for the injured.
