Patna, Oct 8 – In the run‑up to Bihar’s assembly polls, Jitan Ram Manjhi of Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) kept asking the NDA for more seats, while RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav said the people want a change, not politics of the past.
Tejashwi told a press conference that Manjhi’s anger or the Union MSME Minister’s “displeasure” matters little. “Biharis are tired of the NDA government,” he said. “They want a new government, a new Bihar.” He added that rising unemployment and inflation have made voters ready for a complete shift in power.
Seat‑sharing talks are still in limbo. Sources say the Grand Alliance could finalize its formula by evening, while the NDA is still negotiating. Since the election schedule was announced, both coalitions have been bargaining over how many constituencies each party will contest.
Jitan Ram Manjhi, who has been a key ally for the NDA, said he wants 15 seats in the 2025 elections. He warned that if his party does not get enough, HAM(S) may drop out entirely. He posted on social media, quoting lines inspired by the Mahabharata, to stress his point.
Back in 2020, HAM(S) fought seven seats and won four – Imamganj, Barachatti, Tikari and Sikandara – showing a strong win rate inside the NDA. Initially the party wanted 40 seats but has now slipped to 15.
The opposition, led by RJD’s Kanhaiya Kumar Yadav and part of the Grand Alliance, is watching the NDA negotiations closely. Other NDA allies, such as Chirag Paswan of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), are also demanding a bigger share of seats.
With elections fast approaching, Bihar voters face a choice: stay with the current NDA coalition or turn to the Grand Alliance for change.
