Tributes Pour In for Brave Soldiers Who Died in Kulgam Anti-Terror Operation
In a moving ceremony in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha honored two courageous Army soldiers who lost their lives fighting terrorists in Kulgam district. Subedar Perbhat Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Sindhu made the ultimate sacrifice during intense operations on Monday, and their bravery has touched hearts across the nation.
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha shared a heartfelt message, saying, "I salute the supreme sacrifice of our Army Bravehearts Sub Perbhat Gaur and L/Nk Narender Sindhu. Their valour and indomitable spirit will remain etched forever in our hearts. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. The nation stands shoulder to shoulder with them in this difficult hour." It’s a powerful reminder of the dedication these heroes show every day.
Earlier that day, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also paid his respects by laying a wreath at the site. He expressed deep sorrow and praised the soldiers’ courage. "The exemplary courage, unwavering valour, and ultimate sacrifice of these soldiers will be eternally remembered with deep respect and gratitude," an official statement quoted him as saying. Abdullah also assured that the government stands firmly committed to supporting the families of these martyrs in every way possible.
The tragic incident unfolded in the Gudar forest area of Kulgam during a fierce anti-terrorist operation. Security forces clashed with terrorists, killing two of them in the process. Sadly, three soldiers, including a junior commissioned officer (JCO), suffered injuries. Subedar Perbhat Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Sindhu fought hard but succumbed to their wounds in the hospital on Monday. The injured JCO remains stable, and doctors are keeping a close watch.
Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat visited the Gudar forest site on Tuesday to oversee the ongoing operation. Joint forces from the Army, police, and other agencies continue their aggressive push against terrorists in the region. These efforts target not just the armed militants but also their overground workers (OGWs) and sympathizers who help sustain terrorism.
Security experts stress that dismantling the terror ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir requires a broader approach. They say it’s not enough to eliminate gun-wielding terrorists; forces must also crack down on those providing support behind the scenes. This comes after the suspension of Operation Sindoor, with reports of terrorists attempting to infiltrate from the Pakistani side of the Line of Control (LoC).
Jammu and Kashmir faces significant security challenges along its borders. The 740 km LoC, guarded by the Indian Army, and the 240 km International Border in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts, protected by the Border Security Force (BSF), remain hotspots. Terrorist groups, backed by Pakistan, often use drones to smuggle weapons, drugs, and cash across these borders to fuel attacks.
The BSF has stepped up with advanced anti-drone technology to counter these threats and stop handlers in Pakistan from aiding terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. On top of that, security forces keep a sharp eye on drug smugglers and hawala money networks. They believe the funds from drug trafficking and illegal money transfers directly support terror activities.
As these operations continue, the focus stays on protecting the region and honoring the sacrifices of brave soldiers like Subedar Perbhat Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Sindhu. Their story inspires us all to support the fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
