Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is set to lead a key security meeting in Srinagar on Friday. He’ll head the Unified Headquarters, the top coordination body that brings together army, police, and intelligence teams to tackle terrorism in the region.
Top officials will join him, including the General Officer Commanding of the Army’s Northern Command, Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma; Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat; Chief Secretary Atal Duloo; and leaders from central forces, paramilitary units, and various intelligence agencies. This group focuses on sharing intel and working together to take down terrorists, their supporters, and the networks that back them.
During the Jammu and Kashmir security review, Sinha will get updates on the latest situation across the union territory, especially along the Line of Control (LoC) and international borders. The discussion will cover winter security preparations, Pakistan’s recent escalation along the LoC, and other pressing concerns.
This comes after Sinha’s last Unified Headquarters meeting in May, right after the successful Operation Sindoor. Back then, he urged security forces to launch precise, intelligence-driven operations to eliminate terrorists and break up their support systems.
The push for stronger action followed a deadly attack on April 22 in Baisaran meadow, where Lashkar-e-Taiba militants backed by Pakistan killed 26 civilians. In response, India’s armed forces struck nine terror camps deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) during Operation Sindoor—without crossing the border. They also hit 11 Pakistani defense sites that had targeted Indian civilian areas, religious sites, and military spots.
Since wrapping up Operation Sindoor, security teams have ramped up anti-terror raids in the Jammu and Kashmir hinterland. Meanwhile, the Army keeps watch over the 740-kilometer LoC, and the Border Security Force guards the 240-kilometer international border.
