Joint forces in Jammu and Kashmir launched an anti-terrorist operation in Kathua district on Monday after spotting two suspected terrorists in a local village. The action kicked off in the Malhar area, specifically around Dragal village, where the suspects were last seen.
Army troops, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF personnel jumped into a cordon and search operation to track down the armed suspects. “We got tips about their movements, so we moved fast,” one official told reporters. The teams are sweeping the nearby forests with sniffer dogs and high-tech gear like drones for surveillance.
Security forces have sealed off all exit points and expanded searches to surrounding villages. They’re leaving no stone unturned in this push against terrorism in J&K.
To keep everyone safe, officials urged locals to stay inside their homes and report any suspicious activity right away. “Civilian safety comes first,” the official added.
This isn’t a one-off effort. Joint forces are ramping up crackdowns on terrorists, their overground workers, and anyone sympathizing with them across the Union Territory. They’re also targeting drug smugglers and peddlers, as intelligence points to hawala money and drug profits fueling terror networks in Jammu and Kashmir.
The new approach focuses on breaking down the whole terror ecosystem, not just taking out the gunmen. While the Army patrols the 740-kilometer Line of Control in areas like Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of Jammu, the Border Security Force watches the 240-kilometer International Border in Jammu, Kathua, and Samba districts. Back in the hinterland, police and paramilitary units handle the fight against militants.
