Hyderabad – In a move that could shake up the upcoming Jubilee Hills by‑poll, Congress hopeful Naveen Yadav was booked by Madhura Nagar police on Tuesday for allegedly violating Election Commission of India rules. The charge follows a complaint from an electoral officer after a local Telugu daily ran pictures of Yadav handing out voter‑ID cards in the area.
Police filed the case under Sections 170, 171 and 174 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 123(1) and 123(2) of the Representation of the People Act, citing possible corrupt practices. The complaint was made by Electoral Registration Officer G. Rajinikanth Reddy.
Yadav is one of three Congress candidates shortlisted for the Jubilee Hills Assembly seat, which became vacant when former MLA Maganti Gopinath of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) died in June. BRS has named Gopinath’s wife, Maganti Sunitha, as its nominee. The party’s and BJP’s names for other candidates are still pending.
The by‑poll is scheduled for November 11. The official notification will be released on October 13, with nominations closing on October 21. Candidates can withdraw their names until October 24. Poll counting is set for November 14, and the entire election process should finish by November 16, 2025.
The Model Code of Conduct took effect across Hyderabad district on Monday following the announcement of the election timetable.
This development comes just after the Election Commission confirmed the November 11 polling date, raising questions about campaign conduct ahead of the contest. Naveen Yadav’s case highlights the tight scrutiny candidates face in Telangana’s high‑profile by‑election.
