Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia made a strong call for women’s empowerment in local governance during a recent event in Madhya Pradesh. Speaking in Gwalior on Saturday, he urged that women elected to urban bodies and Panchayats should get full freedom to do their jobs without any meddling, especially from their husbands.

“Women are perfectly capable of handling these roles,” Scindia said. “If they can manage their families, they can surely lead in public service. Let’s not interfere in their official work.” He made these remarks after inaugurating a new post office and passport service in Morena district.

Addressing a large crowd of locals, Scindia directly appealed to men whose wives hold these positions. “Women in Gram Panchayats, Zila Panchayats, and Zila Parishads across the Gwalior-Chambal region deserve to make their own decisions. I urge all men here to pledge today that we won’t step in,” he said.

Scindia also called on MLAs and other leaders at the event to back women in their areas. He highlighted the need to support schemes like Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, which helps save for girls’ futures. “I’ve pledged to cover the initial deposit for every account opened under this scheme. I appeal to all male representatives to join me in this,” the Guna Lok Sabha MP added.

Shifting to India’s big picture, Scindia praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “In the last 11 years, India has risen to the world’s fourth-largest economy. We’re on track to become number three soon—but only if we give equal chances to men and women.” He stressed Modi’s vision for women empowerment and said everyone must work to make it real.

The minister also spotlighted key women-centric initiatives by the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh, like the Ladli Laxmi Yojana and Ladli Behna Yojana. These schemes, aimed at supporting girls and women, were first rolled out in the state under BJP rule.

Scindia gave a shoutout to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav for pushing Madhya Pradesh towards development. “The state has seen huge progress in recent years, and we’re leading the way with these empowering programs,” he noted, emphasizing the BJP’s commitment to growth and equality.
