In Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, DMK leader Kanimozhi fired strong criticism at the AIADMK leadership and the BJP during a public meeting on Sunday. As the party’s deputy general secretary and local MP, she accused AIADMK of ditching the principles set by its founder, M.G. Ramachandran, and instead bowing to orders from Delhi.
Kanimozhi reminded the crowd how Ramachandran, the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, always championed “Annaism”—the ideals of C.N. Annadurai, a key figure in the state’s Dravidian movement. But she slammed current AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami for dropping that talk. “He’s pushing ‘Amit Shahism’ now,” she said, pointing to the BJP’s Home Minister. “For every problem, they don’t sort it out in their Chennai headquarters. They fly straight to Delhi and line up outside Amit Shah’s office.”
She mocked the AIADMK’s close ties with the BJP in Tamil Nadu politics, calling it a total surrender. “Their headquarters might as well be in Delhi,” Kanimozhi added. “Even breathing or chatting with each other needs Delhi’s okay. Without Amit Shah’s nod, two AIADMK leaders can’t even meet to talk.”
Kanimozhi didn’t stop there—she took aim at the BJP too, especially over the buzz around voter list deletions in Tamil Nadu. She twisted the term “SIR,” used for the electoral roll revision, into “Shah Intensive Revision.” “Voters are getting removed left and right under this so-called cleanup,” she charged. “But really, it’s BJP pressure at work, trying to tilt the scales ahead of elections.”
She also hit out at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the BJP’s ideological backbone. “People who preach patriotism and nationalism every day should look at their own past,” Kanimozhi said. “The RSS has no business lecturing anyone on morals.”
These sharp words come as AIADMK sticks close to the BJP despite grumbles from within its ranks. Meanwhile, the ruling DMK ramps up its attacks on both parties, gearing up for the next round of Tamil Nadu elections.
