Hassan Deputy Commissioner KS Latha Kumari shared details with reporters, explaining that the procession was moving along peacefully with a large group of youths, possibly including engineering college students—though officials are still verifying this. Eyewitnesses say the truck hit a divider before slamming into the participants. Police are investigating the exact cause of the Ganesh procession accident, but early reports point to the driver’s loss of control.

The injured received quick medical attention. Eight people are under treatment at KIMS Hospital, with one in critical condition. Seven others are stable at a private hospital. Authorities are working to support everyone affected by this devastating Hassan truck accident.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed deep sorrow over the Ganesh immersion tragedy. In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), he condoled the loss of lives and announced Rs 5 lakh compensation for each deceased person’s family. “The government will cover all medical expenses for the injured,” he added, praying for the souls of the departed and speedy recovery for the victims. “This is a painful moment—let’s stand with the grieving families,” he urged.

Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy also voiced his shock at the incident in Mosalehosahalli village, Hassan taluk. “It’s heartbreaking that devotees lost their lives in this horrific truck collision during the Ganapati procession,” he posted. He called on the state government to ensure top-notch free treatment for the injured and prayed for peace for the departed souls and strength for their loved ones.

Hassan MP Shreyas Patel echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the tragedy’s impact on the community. As investigations continue into this unfortunate Karnataka road accident, locals are mourning the loss while hoping for justice and better safety measures during festivals.
