Drug Crisis Grips Karnataka: Union Minister Blasts Congress Government Over Rising Drug Mafia
In a sharp attack on the Congress-led Karnataka government, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has called the state a growing hub for drug mafia. Speaking to reporters in Delhi on Monday, the Food, Public Distribution, and Consumer Affairs Minister highlighted how drug and ganja cases are spiking, putting young lives at risk.
"Day by day, drug-related incidents are on the rise in Karnataka," Joshi said. "Our youth are losing their precious lives to this menace. Is the Congress government, caught up in appeasement politics, turning a blind eye?" He questioned the state leaders’ silence as open drug trade flourishes across many areas, with no strict action in sight.
Joshi didn’t hold back, alleging that police officials are teaming up with drug peddlers. "This shows the Congress government’s negligence and corruption. They’re leading the youth down a dangerous path," he added. Once known for its culture and values, Karnataka now feels like a safe haven for criminals under what he called "misrule that has crossed all limits."
The minister demanded immediate tough measures to crush the drug and ganja mafia. He accused the state of running a "shameless administration" where public safety, security, and law enforcement have totally broken down.
This comes amid a major scandal in Bengaluru. Last week, authorities suspended 11 police officers, including a Police Inspector, from Chamarajpet and JJ Nagar stations. They’re under investigation for allegedly colluding with a drug peddling gang in the west division.
Police say these officers worked hand-in-glove with peddlers selling tidel tablets—sedatives turned into drugs when diluted. In return, the cops pocketed protection money, collecting Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh every month.
The bust happened on August 22 when RR Nagar police nabbed six peddlers, including Salman, Nayaz Ullah, Nayaz Khan, and Taher Patel, red-handed. They were selling narcotic tablets to students and young workers. Officers seized 1,000 tablets from the group.
Digging deeper, investigators checked the peddlers’ phones and uncovered shocking links. Audio messages and chats showed direct contact with the suspended officers, discussing money deals. Even more damning: the cops partied with the peddlers and socialized regularly.
This drug nexus in Bengaluru has sparked outrage, with calls for stronger crackdowns on police corruption and the growing Karnataka drug mafia. As the state battles this crisis, questions swirl about how to protect the youth from such threats.
