In Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka, police made a bold move against cattle theft and illegal slaughter. The Bantwal Rural Police seized the house and hidden slaughterhouse of a repeat offender named Hasanabba from Maripalla in Pudu Village.

This marks the first time in the district that authorities have confiscated a home tied to an illegal slaughterhouse, all under the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020. Hasanabba faces charges under Section 303 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and several parts of the Cattle Preservation Act and Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act. Officers arrested him after uncovering his operations.

Hasanabba has a long rap sheet, with past cases in 2017 and 2018 for cattle theft and cow slaughter violations. He stole animals and ran an unlicensed slaughterhouse right inside his own home, where he processed the meat.

To stop his ongoing crimes, the Bantwal Rural Police filed a report with the Assistant Commissioner and Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Mangaluru Sub-Division. They pushed for taking over the illegal setup under Sections 8(4) and 8(5) of the 2020 Act.

On September 25, officials acted on it, confiscating the property at Maripalla Padi in the Pudu Gram Panchayat area. The government now controls the site, sending a strong message against illegal cattle slaughter in Karnataka.
