Bengaluru police have nabbed eight suspects, including three juveniles, in a crackdown on a crime spree that involved slashing tires and smashing windows on vehicles with machetes and long blades. The arrests also cracked open links to several robberies across Bengaluru city and the surrounding Bangalore Rural district.
It all started on the night of September 25 when officers at Byadarahalli Police Station got a tip about a group riding an autorickshaw through neighborhoods like Andrahalli, Chakranagara, and Valmiki Layout. Between 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m., the gang attacked about 16 parked cars on the roadside, leaving a trail of destruction. Police quickly filed a case and launched a full investigation.
Acting on solid leads, teams from multiple stations rounded up the eight accused. Under questioning, they owned up to the Byadarahalli attacks and confessed to wrecking six more vehicles in the nearby Kare Kallu area, which falls under Annapoorneshwarinagar Police Station.
Digging deeper, detectives tied the group to a string of robberies: one in Madanayakanahalli, two in Doddaballapura Rural, and another in Doddabelavangala. These busts have solved a whopping 26 cases in Bengaluru and Bangalore Rural so far.
The suspects aren’t newcomers to trouble. They have rap sheets stretching back years, with past charges for murder, extortion, attempted murder, robbery, and vehicle theft. Many had just gotten out on bail when they went on this latest rampage. Police say the probe continues to uncover more details.
In a separate bust, Bengaluru’s City Crime Branch Narcotics Wing rounded up three foreign nationals on September 25. The trio had slipped into India in 2024 without valid papers and had been holed up in an apartment in the Devanahalli Police Station area ever since.
Officers got a reliable tip about their illegal stay, registered a case at the CCB station, and raided the spot. They took the three into custody right away, and investigations are ongoing into their activities in Bengaluru.
