On Oct. 8 in Chandigarh, Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national leader Arvind Kejriwal unveiled the Roshan Punjab project. The initiative will spend ₹5,000 crore to give the state the country’s first uninterrupted 24‑hour power supply, eliminating power cuts for the first time in India.
Kejriwal highlighted Punjab’s recent floods and praised the resilience of its citizens. He said no prime‑minister or state government has ever imagined a plan big enough to make power outages disappear. The new scheme will overhaul the electricity network—building fresh substations, new power lines, and reducing feeder loads—to keep the grid stable even in remote areas.
“We are launching a historic initiative that will end voltage fluctuations and power cut alarms everywhere in Punjab,” Kejriwal said. “By next year, every home and shop will have constant power.”
Mann added that the drive aligns with AAP’s agenda to put education, health and power front and center for citizens. He praised the planning team that drafted the blueprint for Roshan Punjab, stressing that the state has started taking the necessary steps to boost the power sector. The project’s name, meaning “illuminated Punjab,” reflects its goal of brightening every corner of the state with reliable electricity.
