Kendua Shanti Sangha’s Durga Puja theme ‘Nigudh’ explores the mystical journey to Goddess Durga

Kolkata’s Kendua Shanti Sangha committee just revealed its exciting 53rd Durga Puja celebration, kicking off with a mysterious theme called “Nigudh.” That Bengali word captures ideas of the hidden, unknown, and enigmatic—perfect for diving into the spiritual side of the festival.

This year’s setup, titled “A Mystical Endless Journey to the Goddess,” takes visitors on a thoughtful path toward Goddess Durga. It mixes stunning art, deep symbols, and messages about social awareness, moving away from everyday visuals to spotlight the divine’s mysterious essence. If you’re into Kolkata Durga Puja events that blend tradition and fresh ideas, this one stands out.

Shaoni Shome, a committee member, shared with : “This marks our 53rd Durga Puja with Kendua Shanti Sangha, and the theme is A Mystical Endless Journey to the Goddess. We really don’t know what our gods look like—we just go by stories passed down. That’s the journey we’re exploring this time, the path to reaching the divine.”

One standout feature? A breathtaking idol of Goddess Durga appearing to float, drawing inspiration from the moon’s zero-gravity vibe. The statue rises 24 to 28 feet tall, blending otherworldly grace with powerful divinity. And it’s all eco-friendly: organizers used fishing nets, bamboo, and metals that can be reused afterward, keeping the Kolkata Durga Puja sustainable.

Shome added that visionary organizer Sushantu Shivani Pal led the charge on the idol, sound design, and more. The team spent six months crafting it with help from 180 artists. They’re ready for crowds too, with smart management, emergency exits, medical help on site, wheelchair access, and full fireproofing to ensure everyone stays safe.

The whole event pushes positivity and invites people to reflect on their own spiritual paths in its enchanting atmosphere. As a UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage, Durga Puja in Kolkata keeps evolving, fusing age-old rituals with bold, theme-driven art. Kendua Shanti Sangha’s Nigudh pandal is a prime example, sparking devotion, wonder, and self-discovery amid the festivities.
