In Thiruvananthapuram on Oct. 8, Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the state will not let anyone linked to the Sabarimala gold‑plating controversy get away. He made it clear that no wrongdoer will be protected and that the government will act without favor.
Vijayan confirmed that the Kerala government has been investigating the case from day one. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) was set up after a High Court order. The CM stressed that anyone caught in the scandal will be held accountable.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders in the Kerala Assembly protested the controversy and said they would not cooperate in legislative business until Devaswom Minister V.N. Vasavan resigned. Opposition leader V.D. Satheeshan said the boycott would continue until his resignation. Parliamentary Affairs Minister M.B. Rajesh noted that the opposition could have taken a less confrontational route, such as an adjournment motion, but chose to block assembly proceedings instead.
The Assembly Speaker tried to bring all party leaders together for a meeting, but opposition members refused to attend. Vijayan called the opposition “afraid of the Assembly” and urged them to raise their concerns through proper channels.
Trivandrum Devaswom Board (TDB) President P.S. Prashanth said the Devaswom Vigilance will hand over its report on Oct. 10. He denied any links between the board and a person named Unnikrishnan Potti, stressing that the board has records of the gold found on the Dwarapalaka sculpture panel.
Sabarimala Ayyappa Seva Samajam (SASS) has asked for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged gold theft. SASS National Chairman S.J.R. Kumar wrote to Kerala’s Additional Chief Secretary, stating that an investigation by Devaswom Vigilance or state police might be compromised.
The controversy continues to dominate Kerala politics, with calls for a full, transparent probe from all sides.
