In New Delhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge rallied party workers on Thursday to stay true to their roots and connect deeply with everyday people, especially the voiceless and marginalized. Speaking at an All India Congress Committee (AICC) observers’ meeting, he pushed for stronger grassroots engagement as part of the party’s ongoing Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, or Organization Creation Campaign.

Kharge drew inspiration from India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, quoting him directly: “Congress must maintain close ties with the millions of voiceless people it represents. When Congress workers merge with these millions in their thoughts and lives, Congress committees will become sacred places that will provide solutions to the problems of men and women suffering from injustice.”

The gathering included senior leaders and observers from across India, who reviewed the campaign’s progress and mapped out ways to bolster the party’s structure at the district level. A big step forward? They set up formal committees to pick district Congress presidents in key states like Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. These areas are prime focus spots as the party gears up for future elections by revamping its local teams.

Kharge made it clear: Congress isn’t just a political machine—it’s a movement built on empathy, justice, and real public service. “Our strength lies in our ability to listen, to represent, and to act,” he said. “Every committee must reflect the aspirations of the people it serves.”

Launched earlier this year, the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan aims to breathe new life into the party’s organization through transparency, inclusivity, and accountability. Forming these selection committees is a major milestone, pointing to a more hands-on approach to leadership that involves local voices.

Other party leaders at the meeting backed Kharge’s call, urging fresh energy and unity from the ground up. They stressed making selections based on merit while keeping them grounded in local needs.

The session wrapped up on a high note, with everyone recommitting to democratic principles and building a party that’s truly responsive to people’s concerns.
