Kolkata Police Gears Up for Smooth Durga Puja 2023: Big Meeting with Puja Committees Set for September 10
Kolkata’s Durga Puja celebrations are just around the corner, and the city police are leaving no stone unturned to make sure everything runs smoothly. Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma has called for an important meeting with Durga Puja committees on September 10. This gathering at Dhano Dhanya Auditorium on Wednesday evening will focus on key preparations for the grand festivities.
The Kolkata Police team has rolled out special steps to handle everything from security to crowd management during Durga Puja. They want to stick closely to all administrative rules and legal guidelines to avoid any hiccups.
Sources from Kolkata Police say that detailed instructions about the meeting have already gone out from Lalbazar, the police headquarters, to officers at every police station in the city. But only selected officials from Puja committees need to show up. Committees that draw huge crowds during Durga Puja across Kolkata must send their reps.
Each major Puja committee will send two representatives, and around 1,500 people are expected to join in. It’s not just the committees—senior Kolkata Police officers like Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners will be there too. You’ll also see folks from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, power supplier CESC, fire department, state pollution control board, and other admin agencies.
The meeting will dive into practical stuff like applying for Puja permissions online, following High Court orders, rules for collecting donations, limits on building pandals, idol immersion schedules, and traffic management plans. They’ll also talk about how other departments can team up with police to keep law and order during the Puja days.
A police officer shared that Durga Puja every year brings challenges like managing crowds, fixing traffic jams, controlling noise pollution, and sorting out donation complaints. Good news? This year, they’ve simplified the online permit process to make things easier for everyone.
Commissioner Verma plans to send a strong message: Puja committees must follow court orders and admin rules, or face strict action. At the same time, Kolkata Police aims for a peaceful Durga Puja 2023 with everyone’s cooperation. With these steps, the city hopes for vibrant yet safe celebrations that light up Kolkata’s spirit.
