Karnataka’s Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, reassured the public after rumors spread that the state was planning to ban the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). During a press briefing in Puttur, the CM said the government has not issued any new order targeting the RSS specifically.
The policy in question requires any group to seek permission before holding activities on school or college grounds. He pointed out that the order mentions “any organisation or association,” making it all‑encompassing, not just the RSS. “If the former government could put this rule in place, we can do the same,” Siddaramaiah said.
He recalled that in 2013, then Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar introduced a similar directive. When Shettar left office, he claimed the education department had issued the order, but the CM clarified it was issued during his own tenure. The CM repeated that permission is not automatic and depends on the situation, the need for law and order, and the nature of the request.
Following the launch of the Ashok Janamana 2025 programme, the CM spoke about social responsibility, urging people to share part of their earnings with the less‑privileged and stressing India’s unity in diversity. “When everyone respects all religions and lives together peacefully, the Constitution’s goals will come true,” he said.
He criticised those who spark communal tensions, noting they “send poor, innocent children to the front lines.” He added that new, efficient officers have been appointed to handle such incidents.
Siddaramaiah also criticized the national GST policy. He said the government cut GST and called it a “Diwali gift,” while Karnataka suffered a 15,000‑crore‑rupee loss because of GST changes. He condemned the past eight years of “tax looting” by the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On communal harmony, the CM said it is vital for Karnataka’s prosperity, especially in Mangaluru. “We will file cases against those who disrupt harmony and spread false news,” he said. Minister Priyank Kharge and H.K. Patil have already reviewed legal measures to protect community unity.
The CM’s comments aim to calm fears about an RSS ban, clarify school‑campus policy, and reaffirm Karnataka’s commitment to communal harmony and fair governance.
