Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy urged Indians to keep patriotism alive as the country celebrates 150 years of the anthem “Vande Mataram.” The ceremony took place at a BEML plant in Mysuru, where the minister joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s live broadcast from Delhi.
“Seeing the nation unite around Vande Mataram even after one and a half centuries is heart‑warming,” Kumaraswamy said. He recalled how the song, written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875, helped rally people during the freedom struggle and continues to move listeners today.
Prime Minister Modi kicked off a year‑long series of events to mark the milestone. Kumaraswamy called on young people to embrace the ideals within the song and to nurture a strong sense of patriotism. While speaking, he planted a sapling at the BEML campus, a symbolic act seen by MLA G.T. Harish Gowda and senior company officials.
In opposition, R. Ashoka noted that Vande Mataram was more than a national hymn—it was a declaration of cultural nationalism. The BJP’s Karnataka unit posted on X that 150 years ago, the anthem sparked unity in India’s fight for freedom and now fuels the nation’s progress, innovation and global leadership.
“Vande Mataram” remains one of India’s most enduring symbols of patriotism and unity, celebrated for its powerful call to the motherland even today.
