India celebrated Hindi Diwas on Sunday, with top leaders sharing warm wishes and praising the language as a key to national unity and progress. This special day, marked every September 14, honors the moment in 1949 when India’s Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi as an official language during the Constitution’s drafting.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah led the greetings on social media, calling Hindi a vital bridge between India’s diverse languages and dialects. “Hindi Diwas ki hardik shubhkamnayein! Hindi promotes national unity and is fast becoming the go-to language for technology, science, and research,” he posted on X. Shah added that from the freedom struggle to tough times like the Emergency, Hindi has always united Indians. He emphasized its role in building a developed (‘Viksit’) and self-reliant (‘Atmanirbhar’) India while embracing all languages.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh echoed these sentiments, highlighting Hindi’s deeper meaning. “Warm greetings on Hindi Diwas to all citizens. Hindi isn’t just words—it’s our national spirit, cultural pride, and emotional bond. It has united us from the independence movement to today. Let’s commit to protecting and promoting Hindi and every Indian language to make our nation stronger,” he shared.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar pointed out Hindi’s global appeal. “Best wishes on Hindi Diwas. As the world shows more interest in India’s culture and heritage, Hindi plays a big part. Kudos to linguists and Hindi lovers spreading it worldwide,” he wrote on X.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described Hindi as the bedrock of India’s unity and identity. “Hindi ties us all together, carrying our traditions and linking us to our roots. Let’s pledge to use it more, expand it globally, enrich it, and turn it into the top language for the digital world,” he posted on X.
These messages from leaders underscore Hindi’s enduring power in fostering unity, culture, and innovation across India.
