Bengaluru – Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara said Tuesday that the final say on party leadership rests with the Congress high‑command. He told reporters that the party’s leaders follow the high‑command’s orders and that anyone who does not will face discipline, citing a long‑standing tradition.

Parameshwara defended Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s recent pledge to obey the high‑command. “The Chief Minister has said he will follow the party’s decision,” he said. “He has said that before and is saying it again.”

When asked about a possible visit to Delhi by senior Congress leaders, he said he was not sure who would go. “I don’t know who is going,” he said, adding that he would travel if necessary.

Parameshwara explained that transfers for senior ministers are done only when needed. “Transfers in all departments – except for the police – have been frozen,” he said. “Police transfers happen continuously based on requirement; there’s no fixed time frame.”

He made it clear that decisions on cabinet composition are not his to make: “That’s for the Chief Minister and the high‑command.”

In policing matters, the minister ordered the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner to file a detailed report on an incident at Varthur police station, where a domestic worker was allegedly held illegally and assaulted. “Once the report comes in, we will take strict action against any officer found guilty,” Parameshwara said.

On the ongoing sugarcane farmers’ protest in Bagalkot, he said he had spoken to Sugar Minister Shivanand Patil and instructed him to set fair prices quickly. “We’ll have meeting with farm‑factory officials to resolve the dispute,” he added. He also noted a dramatic turn of events yesterday: “A farmer tried to kill himself by drinking poison, but police saved him. We will prevent such tragedies from happening again.”
