In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar recently shared a heartwarming memory of his first meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi back in 2012. At the time, Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, and Chandrasekhar was an independent MP just six years into his political journey. He opened up about this “game-changing” encounter in a touching video on his X handle, giving fans a glimpse into what shaped his path.
Chandrasekhar recalled traveling to Ahmedabad with low expectations. “I was full of questions but few answers in my public life,” he said. To his surprise, Modi had a stack of Chandrasekhar’s old writings on his desk—essays and reflections from years ago. Instead of a quick hello, Modi dove right in, asking detailed questions about a 2010 piece on governance. “He remembered it so precisely that I was speechless,” Chandrasekhar shared, highlighting Modi’s sharp memory and genuine interest.
For Chandrasekhar, this wasn’t just a meeting—it felt like being truly heard. “He listened patiently, without interrupting, like he really cared about my thoughts,” he added. As the chat wrapped up, Chandrasekhar asked if he could return for more talks. Modi’s simple reply? “Aate Rahiye”—keep coming. From then on, they met every few weeks for short but impactful conversations that Chandrasekhar calls “lessons in leadership.”
These sessions expanded his views, strengthened his beliefs, and showed him how Modi doesn’t just lead India—he nurtures future leaders too. “That first meeting changed everything for me,” Chandrasekhar reflected, praising Modi’s role in fostering growth in others.
Now 61, Chandrasekhar has had a stellar political career. He served three terms in the Rajya Sabha from 2006 to 2024 and was a Union Minister in Modi’s second government, handling portfolios like Electronics and Information Technology, Skill Development, and Jal Shakti from 2021 to 2024. In 2024, he took on a big challenge by contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Thiruvananthapuram against three-time Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. Though he lost by over 15,000 votes, his strong fight surprised many.
Just when some thought his political story might end, the BJP appointed him Kerala state president in March this year. Chandrasekhar’s journey from that 2012 meeting to leading Kerala’s BJP unit shows the lasting impact of Modi’s mentorship on Narendra Modi leadership style and Indian politics.
