Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav made his stance clear on Wednesday: his BJP-led government shows zero tolerance for cow slaughter. Speaking at a rally in Balaghat, he warned that anyone who harms cows—revered as Gaumata in India—has no place in society. “Their spot is behind bars,” Yadav declared, highlighting the strict laws his administration has put in place to protect cows.
Yadav didn’t hold back in criticizing the opposition Congress party. He pointed to a painful chapter from 1965, when thousands of sadhus, saints, and spiritual leaders, led by Karpatri Maharaj, marched to Delhi demanding a nationwide ban on cow slaughter. “They came peacefully, but the Congress government at the time opened fire on these unarmed devotees,” Yadav said, calling it an unforgivable sin. He added that Karpatri Maharaj later died during a hunger strike protesting the violence, and the public would never forget or forgive Congress for it.
The chief minister also mocked Congress’s past choices, noting how the party once used a cow and calf as its election symbol during Mahatma Gandhi’s era but later ditched it. “They hated the idea that much,” he quipped, accusing the party of ignoring religious sentiments for decades.
Turning to current events, Yadav slammed Congress leaders for spreading rumors about beef being tax-free in Madhya Pradesh. “They used to insult our gods, and now they’re making up stories about beef,” he said. He reminded them of their own time in power back in 2004, when cow protection wasn’t a priority. Under the current BJP government, though, cow slaughter is completely banned. “We can’t even imagine hurting our mother cow,” Yadav emphasized. “If anyone tries, our laws will send them straight to jail. Congress has no love for Gaumata—that’s clear.”
