Maha: PM Modi to inaugurate CM’s short-term employability courses programme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to kick off a major skill-building initiative in Maharashtra with a virtual launch on October 9. The program, called the Chief Minister’s Short-Term Employability Course Programme, aims to equip thousands of young people with job-ready skills tailored to today’s industries.

Maharashtra’s Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha shared the exciting details on Monday. To mark PM Modi’s birthday, the state plans to train 75,000 people each year across 2,506 batches. These sessions will run at 419 government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and 141 government technical schools.

Lodha highlighted how the program delivers quick, employment-focused training to build a skilled workforce that matches industry demands. It puts a special emphasis on women and rural youth, opening doors to self-employment opportunities. “This will help Maharashtra lead the way in cutting-edge tech businesses,” he added.

To make it accessible, the courses operate outside regular school hours, making full use of existing facilities at ITIs and technical centers. The state has set clear guidelines and launched an online admission system. Inside the institutes, 25% of seats go to current students, while the rest open up to outsiders. Fees range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 per month, keeping it affordable for vocational training seekers.

The lineup features a mix of modern and traditional short-term courses, including Additive Manufacturing, Aerospace Structure Fitter, Internet of Things (IoT), Electric Vehicle training, Solar Energy, Drone Technology, Social Media Influencer, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Green Hydrogen, and Mobile Repair Technician. They’re open to a wide group: current or past ITI students, diploma and degree holders from technical education, and those finishing or done with 10th and 12th grades.

Department officials noted that 364 batches target women in emerging fields, while 408 focus on business-oriented skills like Electric Vehicle courses, Solar Energy training, Green Hydrogen production, AI, and IoT. For the upcoming Kumbh Mela, two batches will train people in the “Vedic Sanskar Junior Assistant” trade.

This Maharashtra skill development push promises to boost employability and innovation across the state, creating real opportunities for the next generation.
