In a shocking incident at a newly opened mall in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune, a 21-year-old female security guard has accused her 45-year-old senior officer of sexual assault. The Wakad Police arrested the accused, Manoj Kadam, a resident of Chikhali in Pimpri-Chinchwad, on Tuesday.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Kurhade from Pimpri-Chinchwad Police, the assault happened on September 10, and the victim filed a complaint late on September 11. The young woman was working her shift when Kadam, her superior, tricked her into going to the third floor of the mall by saying they had an important client meeting. Once there, he sent away the other staff members.
Kadam then tried to tempt her with promises of a promotion and salary increase. He touched her inappropriately and forced her to touch him, police said. The brave guard resisted, escaped the situation, and even though Kadam threatened her, she didn’t back down. With support from her husband and colleagues, she went straight to the police the next day.
The police have registered a case against Kadam under key sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 64 for rape, and Sections 68(A) and 68(C) for other related offenses. The FIR was filed at Wakad Police Station, and the Detection Branch made the quick arrest.
This sexual harassment case at the Pune mall has raised serious concerns about workplace safety for women in security jobs. Investigations are ongoing, and more details are expected soon.
