In Nalasopara, Maharashtra, excitement is building ahead of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. At the Jai Hind Khadi Bhandar near Central Park in Nalasopara East, crowds of shoppers are flocking to the store for a special 20% discount on Khadi garments. The patriotic buzz has turned the place into a lively spot for Khadi enthusiasts.

Shop owner Sunil Kumar Singh told that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call on “Mann Ki Baat” to buy Khadi has sparked this rush. “People started coming in big numbers from October 1 to beat the expected crowds on Gandhi Jayanti,” Singh said.

It’s more than just shopping for these customers—they’re embracing a bigger idea. Manoj Yadav, one eager buyer, shared, “We’re not just picking up clothes; we’re supporting Swadeshi to save the nation. Khadi stands for self-reliance and national pride.”

This surge could give a real boost to the Khadi industry while deepening ties to homegrown products. The store stocks a range of options, from traditional kurtas and jackets to modern shirts, pants, and pyjamas, blending style with heritage.

Even younger folks are getting on board, drawn to Khadi’s eco-friendly vibe and cultural roots. A college student browsing shirts put it simply: “It’s comfortable, stylish, and sustainable.” For the store, this youth interest signals a bright future for Khadi.

The energy here ties right into India’s “Vocal for Local” push and the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, proving Khadi remains a powerful symbol—not just fabric, but a movement for self-reliance.
