Popular folk singer Maithili Thakur is eyeing a seat in next month’s Bihar Assembly elections. She plans to run from her home district of Darbhanga on a BJP ticket.
Thakur met with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai and senior BJP leader Vinod Tawde to chat about Bihar’s development. “We discussed several matters related to the state’s progress,” she said. “We’re looking into it, but no official announcement yet.”
She also said she wants to contest the election from her native Darbhanga because she has deep roots there. When asked about which party she’d join, she stayed broad, saying, “The most important thing is the state and country’s development, and I want to help.”
Maithili Thakur has long worked with the BJP and the NDA. In 2020, she sang a campaign song for the alliance to counter Neha Singh Rathore’s viral “Bihar Me Ka Ba” track. The BJP has a history of fielding well-known personalities: the international shooter Shreyasi Singh won a seat in 2020.
She is a big name in the Mithilanchal region, covering Darbhanga, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Sheohar and nearby districts. The final seat‑sharing deal inside the NDA in Bihar hasn’t been set, and the candidate list is still pending. Watching which constituencies the alliance partners will pick, and whether Thakur gets the Darbhanga ticket, will be a key story.
Bihar will hold its polls in two phases—November 6 and November 11—and results will come on November 14.
