Kolkata, Oct 20 – West Bengal’s Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, wished her people a joyful Diwali on Monday, urging the state and the country to keep unity and peace alive. In a short social‑media post she wrote: “Happy Diwali to all! May the light of diyas bring happiness, peace and prosperity, and may the festival inspire harmony in our communities.”
Her message follows a pattern she’s used for other occasions. Banerjee often mixes festival greetings with reminders on sociopolitical matters—especially communal harmony and linguistic unity. This week’s Diwali post was no different, as the holiday also falls on Kali Puja, a major festival in West Bengal.
BJP’s West Bengal state president and Rajya Sabha member, Samik Bhattacharya, shared his own greeting. He said that in tough times, Goddess Kali offers relief and strength. “When life grows weary and the mind feels over‑burdened, Ma Shyama’s compassion helps dispel darkness. May this day bring peace and light to every soul,” he wrote.
Even the opposition leader, Suvendu Adhikari, joined the greetings. He posted a short verse asking Maa Kali to help people overcome challenges. “May Maa Kali give you courage to face all hurdles. Warm wishes to you and your family on Kali Puja,” he wrote.
The week’s messages show how political leaders in West Bengal use Diwali and Kali Puja greetings to promote unity and calm, while also reminding voters of their broader social goals.
