Rajya Sabha MP Slams Rahul Gandhi Over Vote Theft Claims Against Election Commission
In a sharp exchange today, Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his accusations of vote theft in elections. Mishra called out Gandhi for lacking any solid evidence and targeting the Election Commission of India (ECI) without proof.
Speaking to in New Delhi, Mishra dismissed Gandhi’s recent press conference as empty talk. "The whole press conference was nothing. There’s no evidence. Rahul Gandhi always talks nonsense," he said. He added that the public won’t buy into these claims, especially since Gandhi hasn’t shown how any software manipulation happened. "He’s just making oral allegations, which hold no weight in the eyes of the law. The public knows he has no evidence, so he’s attacking a constitutional body like the ECI," Mishra explained.
This comes after Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, accused the ECI of stonewalling a voter fraud probe by the Karnataka Crime Investigation Department (CID). Gandhi pointed to the Aland assembly segment in Kalaburagi district, where he claims the investigation has dragged on for over two years. According to him, the ECI isn’t responding to CID letters, which he sees as proof that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is shielding "vote chors" or vote thieves.
Gandhi’s allegations have stirred up the ongoing debate on election integrity in India, with many eyes on how the ECI handles voter fraud claims.
In response, the Election Commission of India quickly fired back, calling Gandhi’s statements "incorrect and baseless." The ECI clarified that no one from the public can delete voter names online—something Gandhi apparently misunderstood. "No deletion of any vote can happen without giving the affected person a chance to be heard," the ECI said in an official statement.
The poll body also defended CEC Gyanesh Kumar, labeling the accusations against him as unfounded. This back-and-forth highlights the heated tensions between opposition leaders and the ECI amid concerns over electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter list manipulations in recent elections.
As the controversy grows, voters and political watchers are keen to see if more evidence emerges on these vote theft allegations. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
