New Delhi, Dec 2 ( LatestNewsX ) – Over the five‑day stretch from 23 to 28 November, security forces in Manipur stepped up a series of intelligence‑driven, coordinated actions that led to the arrest of 11 insurgent operatives and the confiscation of a large cache of arms, explosives and smuggled goods, officials said on Tuesday.
The joint effort brought together the Indian Army, the Assam Rifles’ Spear Corps, and the state police in districts such as Canchipur, Saikul, Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, and both east and west halves of Imphal. Across these areas, the teams struck swiftly and with precision, capturing members from both hill‑based and valley‑based militant groups.
On 23 November a combined Assam Rifles–Imphal West police unit detained a KCP (PWG) fighter in Canchipur. Two days later, in the Shonglung area of Kangpokpi, the Assam Rifles seized a Heckler & Koch G‑3 rifle and a suite of weapons—including bolt‑action rifles, pull‑mechanism rifles, a self‑made mortar, and hand grenades with detonators—as well as a live‑fire round and a radio set. The following day, near Galbung village in Saikul, the Assam Rifles recovered a carbine, a 303 rifle, multiple magazines and .22 pistols, alongside assorted ammunition, explosives and radio gear.
The 26th saw the capture of a KYKL (SOREPA) member in Porompat Soibam Leikai, Imphal East, by Assam Rifles and Imphal East police. That same day, the Assam Rifles and Nambol police arrested a UNLF (Koireng) operative in Heigrujam, Imphal West, taking a 9‑mm pistol and dozen live rounds. The following evening, the Assam Rifles and Imphal West commandos nabbed three KCP (MFL) fighters from Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal, thwarting plans that could have jeopardised the Sangai Festival.
On 27 November the forces stopped an individual in Kontha Ahallup, Imphal East, unearthing two No. 36 grenades, an arming ring and a mobile phone. Later that day they intercepted another KCP (PWG) recruit in Luker Mayai Leikai, Imphal West, while the Assam Rifles and Thoubal police took an active PREPAK (Progressive) member from Khangabok. All detainees were passed to the proper authorities for prosecution.
The 28th brought unexpected gains: during routine MVCP checks near Yangoubung, Tengnoupal, the Assam Rifles seized foreign‑origin liquor and cigarettes worth Rs 80 lakh, alongside two vehicles and two suspects. Additionally, they excavated five live IEDs in an underground bunker in a forested strip of Tengnoupal. “The explosives were safely neutralised,” one official said, adding that everything taken—both personnel and material—would be handed over for further legal action.
In short, the week‑long operation yielded significant recoveries of weapons, explosives and contraband, and saw the arrest of 11 insurgent cadres across multiple districts.
