Imphal, Oct 10 – Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla opened the first Manipur Global Buyers and Sellers Summit on Friday, praising the state’s natural beauty and entrepreneurial spirit. Speaking at the City Convention Centre, he noted that Manipur’s hills and valleys produce unique goods such as black rice (Chak‑Hao), organic vegetables, hand‑loom fabrics and traditional handicrafts.
Bhalla highlighted the state’s growing IT and service sectors, which are creating jobs and driving innovation. He said the workforce here is skilled, adaptable and enterprising, and that communities—some of whom had been displaced—are now re‑engaging in productive activities and exporting their products worldwide.
The governor described the summit as more than a gathering: it signals confidence in Manipur’s role as a gateway to global trade in Northeast India. He praised the teamwork of the Directorate of Trade, Commerce and Industries, Manipur Industrial Development Corporation (MANIDCO) and the Manipur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI). Their partnership with the Ministry of MSME’s RAMP programme is boosting women‑led businesses and local entrepreneurship.
With improved logistics, expanding digital platforms and close proximity to Southeast Asian markets, Bhalla said the state is ready for rapid growth through international partnerships, sustainable production and inclusive innovation.
The two‑day event, themed “Bridging Business Sans Borders,” is part of the RAMP initiative and features participants from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Thailand, Japan and other northeastern Indian states. The inaugural function was joined by Additional Chief Secretary Anurag Bajpai (Textiles, Commerce & Industries and Transport) and MCCI President Basudev Singh, among local entrepreneurs and businesses.
