New Delhi – The Congress party announced that Manish Sharma will take over as the In‑Charge of the Indian Youth Congress, effective Thursday. AICC General Secretary and MP K.C. Venugopal issued the party’s official statement.
“Congress values the work of the former In Charge, Krishna Allavaru,” Venugopal said. “We welcome Manish Sharma to lead the Youth Congress. Thank you, Krishna, for your long guidance and dedication to our young voters.”
Allavaru is currently the Bihar state in‑charge, a critical role as the party prepares for the upcoming Bihar elections.
Sharma brings a wealth of experience. He spent 14 years running the election processes for the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and the Youth Congress. Before politics, he studied engineering in Bhopal and worked abroad.
Born in Ashoknagar near Gwalior, Sharma once caught the eye of Rahul Gandhi eight years ago. At an NSUI meeting, Rahul noted Sharma’s “Mahatma Gandhi DNA,” but internal opposition stopped his nomination as NSUI president.
Now, Sharma steps into the Youth Congress leadership, replacing Allavaru who had juggled that role with his Bihar duties for almost eight years. The timing of the change, coming as Bihar heads to the polls, has sparked interest from party watchers.
With his engineering background and deep party roots, Sharma aims to energise young voters and strengthen the Youth Congress’s grassroots work. The Congress leadership believes his appointment will bring fresh momentum to the party’s youth wing and help drive voter engagement ahead of the elections.
This leadership shift underscores Congress’s focus on rejuvenating its ranks while staying sharp on the election front. The party’s decision reflects a broader strategy to boost youth participation and solidify support in key states like Bihar.
