New Delhi, Oct 23 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared warm wishes for Bhai Dooj, a festival that celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. In a post on X, Modi wrote, “Heartfelt wishes to all of you on the occasion of Bhai Dooj. May this festival, symbolising the mutual love and trust between brother and sister, bring happiness, prosperity, and good fortune into everyone’s life. May the bond of this relationship gain renewed strength.”
Other top leaders joined the greetings. Union Home Minister Amit Shah wished, “Heartfelt wishes on the auspicious festival of Bhai Dooj. May this festival of love and affection between brother and sister bring immense happiness, harmony, and prosperity into all your lives.” Health Minister J.P. Nadda added, “I extend my heartfelt wishes to all brothers and sisters on the sacred festival of ‘Bhai Dooj,’ a symbol of unbreakable affection and dedication between siblings. May this festival infuse your lives with happiness, prosperity, joy, and affection.”
Bhai Dooj, also called Bhaiya Dooj or Bhai Tika, falls on the second lunar day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartika (the eighth month of the Vikram Samvat and Shalivahana Shaka calendars). The festival often coincides with Diwali and Dipavali Tihar across India. According to legend, Goddess Yamuna invited her brother Yamaraj to a feast on this day, symbolizing the end of suffering for all living beings and the spreading of happiness.
The celebration spreads across regions with great affection and gaiety, reminding families of the special respect and devotion siblings share.
