The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs will host a one‑day regional briefing in Bengaluru this Monday, October 5. The meeting will spotlight how Waqf Boards can build capacity and track progress on the new UMEED Portal, the ministry said Sunday.
Participants include the Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Waqf Boards. Officials will review how well data uploads are proceeding, tackle any implementation hurdles, and brainstorm ways to empower Waqf institutions further.
The session is part of the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development (UMEED) Act of 2025, which went into force in April. Since the UMEED Portal launched in June, every Waqf Board nationwide must upload full property details within six months. The portal checks entries through a maker‑checker‑approver system, ensuring transparency, accuracy and accountability.
During the meeting, the ministry will ask state officials and Waqf representatives for feedback. That input will help fine‑tune operations and better coordinate between the central agency and state boards. Senior officers from each state’s Minority Welfare Department will attend.
The gathering also serves as a sneak peek into the ministry’s plans for the UMEED Portal’s first anniversary last April. Board leaders will share their experiences and suggest improvements to speed up implementation of the 2025 Act.
By modernising Waqf administration, the government hopes to unlock the full developmental potential of Waqf properties and boost services for minority communities across India.
